Foster Kids Aging Out
When a foster child "ages out" of the foster care system, their world is turned upside down, again! Aging out is defied as reaching the maximum age that a youth can remain in the foster care system. When a youth reaches this age, they are…
Giving Kids Hope Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on improving and enriching the lives of children living in either individual foster family homes or group homes, with special emphasis on youth who are aging out of the foster care system.
The US Foster Care System currently houses over 422,000 children. Giving Kids Hope Foundation helps those kids living in group homes and those living in individual foster families through our mentoring programs so that they can gain confidence, learn life skills and reach their goals. We also supplying necessities like linens, personal items, school supplies, baby items, cleaning supplies, beds, and food to those currently living in foster care as well as those who have recently aged out of the system.
More than 23000 kids age out of foster care each and every year. After the age of 18, 20% of those that aged out will become homeless and 25% will be incarcerated within two years if aging out. To help those aging out of the system, GKH offers continued emotional support and mentoring as well as financial support. GKH assist in rental deposits, utilities deposits, home furnishings and stock kitchen with food.
Being placed in foster care can be traumatizing and stressful. At GKH we believe we can provide a network for those affected by foster care, therefore taking away some of that stress. We believe this kind if support will enable the kids to one day enter the world with confidence and become productive and independent.
